My wife and I engaged Hosen Gan as our interior designer for the renovation of our new home. This is the second time we engaged him for renovation. The first time is for our BTO 6 yrs ago. This time round, the entire renovation journey took about 6-8 months, including discussion and planning. Similar to the first renovation, we were extremely pleased with the design and workmanship, especially the carpentry. Hosen is patient, good tempered and is always wiling to listen and accept different ideas and changes. Throughout the renovation, he also provides us regular updates with videos and photos, giving us a peace of mind. The entire renovation is very smooth sailing with no delay, enabling us to move in within the stipulated period. Like many homeowners, I had many sleepless nights worrying about finding the right renovation consultant after deciding to overhaul my 4-room flat. What made it even more stressful was that this was probably only my second or third major renovation in the past 40 years. While researching online, I came across Qanvast and got connected with Jill, one of their consultants. Jill introduced me to two design firms, one of which was Swiss Interior Design, a well-regarded interior design firm in Singapore. That was how I came to know CS Lai, the designer who eventually became my renovation consultant. Jill also shared a valuable tip, to pay attention to the “chemistry” you have with your consultant, as it is often overlooked but key to a successful partnership. She was absolutely right. At the start, I was naturally cautious and did not immediately place my full trust. However, as the renovation progressed, CS’s meticulousness, professionalism, and self imposed high standards gradually won me over. I realised that having the right chemistry with your consultant is just as important as expertise, and with CS, it developed naturally through his dedication, thoughtful guidance, and clear communication. CS communicated clearly and responded promptly throughout the project. During the renovation, I had to undergo major surgery. CS immediately stepped up as the main point of contact for all my deliveries and kept me updated with site videos due to my physical inconvenience. He went above and beyond to ensure everything stayed on track. Small gestures such as bringing a chair from his own home so I could sit comfortably, arranging the installation of my custom cat play wall (cat trees, scratch poles, and climbing mounts) without additional charge, and helping disassemble my digital lock, were all things that went well beyond his responsibilities and showed his thoughtfulness. Before the handover, he even replaced certain items proactively, before I could spot them. The service and workmanship quality were excellent, reflecting his attention to detail and commitment to perfection. CS also kept the renovation within a reasonable budget and timeline, providing confidence and peace of mind throughout the process. I often joked that he is a bit OCD but in this field, that is truly a strength and asset! It suits me well too, because I am OCD as well. Today, I am a very happy homeowner with a beautifully renovated home. This experience reaffirmed the importance of having the right partnership and the right chemistry, one built on trust, communication, and shared commitment to excellence.
